FIRE PUBLIC EDUCATION
Fire Department Mission Statement: To serve and
protect our community through education, prevention, preparedness
and response.
It is the policy of the Fort Worth Fire
Department to provide fire and life safety education programs for
the citizens of Fort Worth.
Each year more than 4000 people die in fires in
the United States. A simple way to reduce this threat is through
education and prevention. According to NFPA statistics, 74% of all
structure fires occur in residential properties – 55% in one-and-two
family dwellings. This is your home!
It is the hope of the Fort Worth Fire
Department that our educational programs will drastically reduce, if
not eliminate the tragedy of fire incidents in our city.
Goal:
- To provide fire and life safety
educational programs for the prevention of death, injury, and
property loss caused by fire.
Objectives:
- To educate citizens regarding fire and
life safety hazards.
- To instill in citizens the responsibility
to prevent fires.
- To instill in citizens the need to be
prepared to escape and survive a fire.
Educational
Programs Offered by the Fort Worth Fire Department:
- Learn Not to Burn Program taught in elementary schools
located within Fort Worth City Limits. This program teaches children basic fire safety and prevention.
- Fire Safety Clown Program is available to a small
number of schools each year. Personal safety messages from
each Clown, biographies, email addresses, and photos are available
on our website
www.fwfd.net/clowns.
- Fire Safety House was built in the 1980’s by a group
of Fort Worth firefighters. It allows parents and children to learn
about fire prevention and fire safety in a realistic environment.
It contains a kitchen area, upstairs bedroom, and first floor
bedroom.
- Smoke Detector Installation and Battery Testing is
available for residents of Fort Worth who need a smoke detector, a
battery replaced, or assistance in testing their smoke detectors.
This is a free service to citizens in need of this vital equipment.
(Rental and Lease Properties are required to have working smoke
detectors and should be verified when the tenant signs the lease.
It is up to the tenant to test and maintain the smoke detector).
- Home inspections and fire escape planning are
available upon request to the Fort Worth Fire Department. A
“Hazards in the Home” checklist will be provided and a firefighter
may be scheduled to walk through your home to help identify obvious
safety hazards and assist you in making an escape plan.
- Fire safety presentations are available to Senior
Citizen’s groups, community centers, neighborhood association
meetings, and other organizations for Senior Citizens and
Non-English speaking Citizens.
- Youth Fire Academy and Citizens Fire Academy provide
an extraordinary experience with the fire department. Participants
learn about and participate in every aspect of the fire department.
