The Friends for Fort Worth Firefighters is a nonprofit organization

formed in 1986 to provide special recognition to Fire Department

personnel. Kay Day, the founding president, said, “This is one way the

community can give something back to the firefighters who risk their

lives for us.” The banquet location and board members have changed over

time, but the purpose has remained the same. The event has grown to more

than 700 attendees, with 17 regular award presentations being made,

including Firefighter of the Year, Distinguished Service Award, Medal of

Valor and many others. Nominations are received from the members of the

Fort Worth Fire Department and the community and are evaluated by four

independent judges around the country.
